Monday faves, it’s BRUSHES!

As the title says today’s Monday Faves will be brushes. I will tell you all about my favorite eye brushes. My brush obsession knows no limits!! From eye brushes, to face, even body brushes, I have them all! We did a little belated mothers day shopping and I almost got brushes. KEYWORD: almost, LOL! (I’m going to apologize in advance for not using my Nikon for this post.)

MORPHE

For setting my eye primer or eye concealer I like using a mini angled buffer by Morphe from the 690 – 6 PIECE DELUXE CONTOUR SET. I got this set from Hautelook for 50% off so it was a steal. The bristles are very soft on the lids. I don’t know how it would blend but just for setting it does amazing.

LUXIESONIAKASHUK

I have several brushes I like for my crease. My ultimate favorite ‘I freak out’ when I lose it is the #109 By Sonia Kashuk. At $5.99 it’s a great brush. Blends seamlessly, is very soft on the lids, and has minimal shedding. Another crease favorite is Luxie’s #205 Tapered Blending Brush. I used to like this brush for my outer corner until I started using it’s sister brush. So one day when my Sonia Kashuk was dirty I picked up this 205 and have never looked back. It’s become one of my must haves, love it forever, “holy grail” blending brush.

UDSIGMA

Ok, so I’m going to be completely honest with you guys; I look up everything I post. I don’t like giving you guys the wrong info. Sooooo in doing just that I found out Urban Decay actually sells the palette brushes individually. HOW DID I NOT KNOW?!? Lol, anyway, I love this brush from my Naked 2 palette to pack on shadow on the lid. If thats dirty my Sigma E55 from the Color Pop Collection does amazing.

ELFBRUSH

I enjoy little gems in the rough and this e.l.f. crease brush is just that. At only a $1 I think a lot of people look past it. I don’t use it as the name suggests but that’s the beauty of makeup, anything goes. I use this inexpensive brush to pack on color in my outer corner. I then blend that out with another brush. Works amazing! The bristles are a bit stiff that’s why I personally don’t use it for the crease but thats just MY opinion.

LUXIE BRUSHES

I like smoking out my bottom lashes with Luxie’s #221 Flat Definer and #231 Small Tapered Blending brush. All these Luxie eye brushes came in a set together I purchased through Ipsy for $25! Winning!

DETAIL SHADOW BRUSH

Last but not least is this cute, random, black brush I like for applying inner corner highlight. This brush came from the very first set of brushes I ever purchased and I cannot remember the name of it. If I had to compare it to another brush I’d say it performs just like Real Techniques accent brush: designed for precision detailing, spotlighting, highlighting, and smudging from the Starter Set .

I cannot have enough brushes and there’s a few sets out there that I have my eyes on. I try to find brushes that are vegan. Sadly sometimes I don’t do my research and I have purchased brushes that are from ‘animal hair’.

What are some of your favorite eye brushes? Any you recommend? Also, would anyone like to see my little Mother’s day haul? lol

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!

Color Correcting

Color Correcting

If like me you have acne, dark circles, or suffer from rosacea then you probably already color correct. It may seem like its something new and trendy but for some of us its a necessity and something thats been around.

If you’ve taken an art class then you must remember the color wheel. Well colors directly across from each other help cancel out the other. For instance Green is directly across from Red therefore canceling it out.

Now a days theres a primer, concealer (like a tube), or a concealer palette to help with any problem areas. If you tend to get a little red all over the face then something as simple as a green tinted primer will help. Or if like me you get those huge inflamed pimples than a green concealer will work better because it will be a bit thicker proving more coverage. Remember concealer is build-able and can go from sheer to full coverage easily.

Sonia Kashuk Concealer

For me this Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer quad in 08 Medium is all I’ve been using. It has a light shade, darker shade, the green shade, and a powder.

This concealer works to minimize the appearance of dark circles, fine lines and skin imperfections while offering an overall smooth and polished finish. Two shades of concealer make it possible to custom-blend your own shade. Rich in treatment ingredients this palette contains: Jojobal Oil, Horse Chestnut Extract and Apricot Oil for smoothing and emollient properties; Vitamins A, C & E protect with anti-oxidant and anti-aging action and the colorless powder smoothes skin and offers hydrating properties for a natural and bright finish. -from their website

Across from blue/purple/green you have orange/red/yellow. So a salmon, peach, pinkish color will help with dark under eye circles. I don’t usually have to resort to concealer for my under eyes because I try to get my full 8hrs of sleep but when my insomnia kicks in and I only sleep for a few hours this trick has been so helpful!

Rimmel

I actually learned this nifty trick from Missy Lyn on youtube. I know its a lipstick and I know its extreme but I cannot see myself spending $5+ on something I use once in a blue moon. This is Rimmel’s Lasting Finish by Kate 110 in Rossetto. So what I do is swipe a little on my ring finger and gently apply it to the under eye. Normally concealer is enough for me but there is people out there who have severe pigmentation under the eye where an actual concealer will be more beneficial. But if you partied too hard the night before and need a quick fix just dab a bit of lipstick in any of the shades I mentioned. (If you’re like me and a bit of a germaphobe then obviously you sanitize your products after cross using.)

Then there’s other colors out there like yellow, orange, white, and purple. IMG_1651

Here is how I conceal my pimple the size of Texas. (LOL) Because my skin does have acne scaring I try to use a light hand with concealer. All I did was prime, color correct, under eye concealer, and foundation.

Any methods you use to color correct problem areas??

Chocolate Bar

Ever had that one palette that no matter how many different ones you own you always run back to?? For me its the original Chocolate Bar by Too Faced. I tell myself its the scent, the packaging, but who am I kidding! This palette has all the right shades for me. From two transitional shades and two highlight shades to amazing all over lid colors. If I could have one palette for the rest of my life it would be this one. It has the perfect combination of shimmers and mattes and enough range of neutral and vibrant colors.

Too Faced never disappoints when it comes to their palettes. Their shadows blend so well, are super pigmented, and  have almost no fall out. Thats very important to me because I want my pennies to be spent on well worth items.

The Chocolate Bar experience begins as soon as you open the palette and the smell of sweet chocolate envelops you. The eye shadows are pigmented with pure, antioxidant-rich cocoa powder and includes 16 matte and shimmer shades of natural browns, delicate pinks and luscious plums. Includes our signature how-to Glamour Guide with three looks to get you started.  -from their website

Chocolate Bar2

This is my travel palette (the love is real) and has had its share of bumps. Luckily its survived every drop and the only real damage is the pan coming off. When I do someone else’s makeup I use this palette 90% of the time unless they want something more dramatic. Sometimes I wonder if I should’ve gotten the Semi Sweet palette just to have as part of the collection but I don’t “love it”.

Anyone else feel the same? Whats your go-to palette??

Let me start this post by mentioning that I am a total packaging dork. The cuter the better. That doesn’t mean I don’t look into things and do research. These little beauties here are my recent favorites. Including the brushes.

The brushes are Sonia Kashuk, Morphe, and Real Techniques. I’m all about affordable brushes and these brands definitely deliver for the price point. The jar is just a repurpose of a spaghetti sauce jar! (lol) I’m all for repurposing.

Now the star of the show are these palettes my husband got me for Valentine’s day. I know I am one lucky girl. The Kat Von D ‘Shade and Light’ palette has been sitting in my Sephora cart for forever!!  It is “an eye contouring palette featuring three color quads in neutral, cool, and warm shades.”-Sephora website. I am absolutely obsessed. I have warm undertones and hazel-ish eyes and this works with me. They have some fall out but they are so buttery and blend soooo well!! Sadly I didn’t think to open the palette, SORRY!!

Then theres Tarte’s ‘Tartelette in Bloom Clay’ shadow palette.” An eye shadow palette with 12 brand-new shades in a mix of matte and luster finishes.” It has 9 mattes and 3 shimmer shadows or like the Sephora website says ‘3 luster’ shadows. Another favorite because of how easy they blend and how buttery they feel. They kind of have a similar scent like the Too Faced chocolate palettes or maybe its just the ‘clay’? Anyone know?

Last but not least is the Too Faced  ‘Chocolate Bon Bon’ palette. “An eye palette from the Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow Collection with 16 heart-shaped, cocoa powder-enriched eye shades in brights and neutrals.” First off this line calls to me in ways I can’t explain! Everything they release is adorable, amazing quality, and worth every penny. Unlike the other two palettes this one has a lot more pops of color. Sadly I haven’t created any ‘colorful’ looks but it seems like such a great option for spring.

Here are my recent Go to makeup selections. I’ve opted for a softer lip, some serious glow (since my foundation does dry to a matte), and of course some simple looks achieved with both these palettes.

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed photographing and typing up!
