Updated Face Routine!

Updated Face Routine!

I never thought I’d be the type of person whose makeup routine would change. Since I started wearing makeup I’ve always been oily. Regardless if I wear makeup or not. I oil up like there’s no tomorrow. But this winter that has changed! Let me tell you its thrown me for a loop.

I was pretty set on using primers that would keep me matte. Especially with living here in Florida I never imagined I’d experience “dry” skin. Its strange!

First things first I double moisturize. Crazy, I know! I have dry patches therefore I will double moisturize in those areas. Everywhere else I just stick to one. My overall face moisturizer is my trusty Philosophy Renewed Hope In A Jar. Then I layer a small amount of Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet.

For primer I’ve only recently changed it to Dr. Brandts Pores No More Luminizer Primer. I was on the hunt for a primer that would make my dull skin luminous since I felt like with dry skin adding layers of color correcting wasn’t for me. So a little hack I had going was I’d combine a small amount of liquid highlighter with my Benefit’s PoreFessional Face Primer. This worked good but I wanted to eliminate a step to my routine.

Foundation hasn’t changed. . . I’m still a die-hard fan of Wet & Wild Photofocus Foundation. I have to combine two colors which in a way is a win because I can change it up if need be. Something else that has changed is my concealer. I’ve opted for a shade lighter than my foundation for a every day look. I’ve been obsessed with L.A Girl concealer and I am still setting my makeup with RCMA setting powder.

Something new I do that I’m not sure if I have mentioned it before is instead bronzing with a bronzer I have opted to bronze with MAC’s Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. I am in the shade NC42 during the summer and NC40 during winter (or when im not in the sun much). I just place that in a 3 motion on the face. Then to contour I use Benefit’s Hoola Matte Bronzer and I don’t bring that up to my forehead. Even tanned I’ve felt it bronzed me way too much.

Eyebrows are basic just Essence brow gel. Mascara is still L’oreal telescopic. Hightligher is Maybelline’s Facestudio Master Chrome Metallic Hightligheter in Molten Gold. My lips have been super basic too, MAC’s Stripdown. Thats it. IMG_0910

As you can see it is seriously my go to makeup look. I have bought some new goodies I can’t wait to try out that are for “dry” skin. So a new post with that will be coming soon.

Ok, now we can acknowledge the hair. LOL!! This post is about to get serious. . . I was pregnant. Sadly we lost the baby a few weeks ago. Wearing makeup and changing my hair is an effort to be myself again. I was in a deep funk which was borderline depression and I felt I needed change. I needed some color in my life when it all felt so dark and gray.

To achieve this color I used Lime Crime’s Moonchild. It obviously wasnt enough and I will be going over it again. But so far I like it! A LOT!! (I will be including the dye in my upcoming posts. If anyones interested.)

What are some tips you have for seasonal dry skin? Any new favorite makeup I should know about?? Tips for dyed hair??

Dear 18 Year old me. . .

Dear 18 Year old me. . .

Have you ever been asked, “If you could go back in time and  tell your 18 year old self anything what would you say??” That question always gets me thinking. Since this is a blog about makeup and what not I will be telling my 18 year old self the importance of moisturizing. I don’t think I ever cared. I did use a moisturizer but it belonged to my mom. I figured that she looked young for her age so why not use it too and it was free (haha) who doesn’t love free??

Another thing I wish I knew the importance of is spf. At such a young age I thought using sunblock only when I went to the beach was enough. Little did I know or understand uv rays and how they’re not only out just during summer. I do know during summer I used a tinted moisturizer with spf 15 but any other time of the year I didn’t bother with my daily moisturizer having spf. As an adult I am scared this will affect me down the road.

I’d also tell myself my eyelashes falling out with a certain mascara means I’m allergic to it so STOP using it. I used to have long thick lashes and suddenly that changed. I noticed it happened when I used a certain mascara. Luckily I never went through a bright blue shadow phase or black eyshadow (lol) so I got lucky with that. I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup so my teenage makeup routine was black eyeliner and mascara.

Then I grew a little left the nest and started my party stage. Which meant I was using a lot more makeup. . .and I wish I could tell myself to wash it off before bed. As an adult I get so mad at myself for not getting into that routine at a younger age. My excuse was always, “I’m tired!” or “I don’t have makeup remover wipes”. As an adult now I understand the importance of washing off my makeup and hydrating my skin. Not just with a good eye and face moisturizer but with water (drinking plenty of it).

This past week I ran out of my makeup remover wipes so I stopped wearing makeup completely just because I hate using a makeup eraser on a full face of makeup. Then I remembered I have my trusty Purity wash by Philosophy. Like always I use my Equate oil-free eye makeup remover to take off my eyeshadow, liner, and mascara. I am not particularly picky about brands when it comes to this I just make sure it doesn’t irritate me. I have had other brands do that. I soak a little cotton pad and hold it against my closed eye for some seconds to break down the makeup and then gently wipe. Once thats off I wash my face with the face wash. If I didn’t do a full face of makeup thats all I do then I just moisturize like usual. If I do I’ll wash off my makeup with Purity then  I use a second face wash or a scrub. Purity is pretty amazing and does the job (I even use it to wash my stubborn  foundation brushes and beauty blender) I just double up if I need it. It is a pricey wash but SO worth it. . . in my opinion.

10 years later I like to think I am a little wiser when it comes to my health both internal and external. Beauty begins in the inside so health and hydration is important to me along with properly caring for my skin! Like many beauty guru’s say “your skin is your canvas” so I try to care for mine as much as possible. Undo all that damage I did as a care free teenager.

If you could go back in time and tell your 18 year old self anything beauty related what would it be??

Monday Faves!

Monday Faves!

Todays post is going to be part favorites part face regime. I struggle with acne. Theres no denying it. Some days/weeks its calm and almost none existent and others I have huge mountains on my face. I’ve never been ashamed or embarrassed of my acne but I will admit, I am jealous of clear skin. Makeup just looks better on clear canvas.

I usually wash my face in the shower and I use the Burt’s Bees natural acne solutions purifying gel cleanser. Its gentle on the skin that it can be used every day.

• Clinically proven to wash away acne causing bacteria, excess oil and impurities
• Soothes acne-prone skin
• Non-irritating
• Helps reduce acne and prevent breakouts with Salicylic Acid from Willow Bark
• Noncomedogenic
• Dermatologist Tested

Then I use the pure-lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum. This trial size I received in my Ipsy bag and I love it! It is for all skin types. Intensive hydration, firms, brightens, and decreases puffiness. I use it during the day and night. I will definitely buy the normal size, asap!

After all that I moisturize my entire face with the philosophy’s renewed hope in a jar. This moisturizer is so gentle on the skin. Doesn’t make me oily so its a great base for my foundation.

philosophy skin labs’ original breakthrough moisturizer is changing the face of skin care again. the revolutionary lightweight, whipped formula of hope in a jar is renewed and infused with a new innovation: clinically proven skin renewal technology. this groundbreaking formulation features a triple blend of alpha hydroxy acids, 3 forms of hyaluronate plus an asian fruit extract, delivering an even longer-lasting glow and continuous hydration benefits. reaffirm your commitment to beautiful skin with renewed hope and face the future with a whole new outlook.

3:7:16-2

On days I won’t be wearing makeup I do a scrub (usually only twice a week). For that I use the St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub. I was once told using a scrub every day was actually making my skin produce more oil because of how harsh a scrub can be. It was doing amazing things to my blackheads but my face was a total butter ball. So I cut it down to twice a week. So far its good. To bring back some moisture to my face I moisturize with the Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturizer. This formula is very thick and makes me oily so I usually use it at night. But, boy, does it leave me feeling soft. So soft!

3:7:16

At night I take off my makeup and use the Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel. I think this was the product to truly help with my acne. I noticed a big change once I started using it. It’s a bit pricey but very worth it. Then I do the charcoal mask by dermale. This left my skin feeling amazing! It didn’t irritate me or cause any redness like mask often do. This sample size I also received in an Ipsy bag. (I know, I’m obsessed!) But I hope to purchase the full size because it feels incredible. I do the mask once a week. Then I just moisturize my eyes and face like usual.

I’ve spent a lot of money trying to find something that worked for me. I am in no way trying to change how I look or who I am. I just want to better my skin. My skin is maturing and it’s time to start taking real care of it. This is just what works for ME and are products I LOVE! In those infamous media world words. . .’They are my Holy Grails.’ (LOL!!) I know I need to incorporate wrinkle reducing products. Also, I have been told my acne is hormonal. Womp Womp!

Any products you have that you recommend?

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!!
