Monday Favorites!!

Monday Favorites!!

I am so beyond ecstatic for today’s post! After a month’s wait my personalized Hoola Bronzer finally arrived. When everyone started posting their Hoola I thought it was something they were only doing for makeup gurus. Then one lovely day my BFF was like, “Have you seen this?!” It was on the Benefit website that anyone can get a personalized Hoola. 😄For a few extra dollars I have my own personalized bronzer. With my name on it. EEEEEKKKKK!!!!! (LOL) I’m going to be 100% honest . . . I can’t make myself use it. This is huge. I think anyone who loves makeup like I do secretly dreams about having their name on a product!

PrisHOOLA
It has my name on the bronzer and the brush it comes with.

ESSIEOPI

Another Monday favorite is this Essie nailpolish in #753 fashion playground. I received this in an Ipsy bag many months ago and have only just used it. I think the minty color is perfect for spring. I like using the O.P.I top coat. It’s the only clear top coat that last through many pool visits. It’s all I use.

NYXPEACHESANDCREAMNYXSTRAWBERRYPARFAITNYXRASPBERRYTART

Lastly, is NYX’s Butter Glosses. I love the formula for these. Its nice and thick without being sticky or slimy. Usually one swipe of these is enough but it can be built to a deeper color without it being overpowering. If I had to compare these to anything it’d be Mac’s Cremesheen Glass. Here I have Peaches and cream, Strawberry Parfait, and Raspberry Tart. As you can guess Peaches and Cream is a soft peach color, Strawberry parfait is a soft pink, and Raspberry tart looks like it would be a deep purple but it actually looks like a light burgundy but can be piled on for a darker berry color. (Side note, my 3yr. old got this because she wanted a purple lipstick.)😂

These products have been my favorite for a while. I have repurchased many of them over and over. They’re here to stay!

What are some of the products you love to repurchase?? Or which have been your favorites as of laretely?

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!

Blogging/Photo Set up

Blogging/Photo Set up

I never imagined myself making a post like this for many reasons. One, I never thought I’d enjoy blogging this much. Second, I never imagined people would take an interest in my work! Lastly, I am my own worst critic so I just never imagined any of this!

I was recently complimented on my photos and was asked for any tips so I thought I’d share what I’ve learned. A lot of it has been trial and error. More often than not I get so frustrated I can’t capture my vision and I ask the Hubs for help. Thankfully he is an amazing support system and will gladly help. I am very grateful for everything including his support.

Let’s begin with the camera. For product pictures 90% of the time I use my Nikon D3300. This was a valentine’s gift from my husband. He believes in me more than I believe in myself so when I told him I wanted to take my blogging more serious he sprang into action. So far it has been such a great investment. I think it gives my blog a more “uniformed” look. We also used it to do my daughters easter pics saving us a good chunk of change. I haven’t purchased a different lens so I simply use the 18-55MM it came with. We have huge windows in our living room so that’s where I usually set up. I try my very best to catch natural sunlight since it gives the pictures the best look.  NIKOND3300

For products I have multiple surfaces and backgrounds I use. Some are diy others I’ve purchased for taking home pictures. What I mean by that is for example the wood surface in the picture with the camera or the marble surface. For backgrounds I use poster boards in different colors. Usually its just white though and I’ll just add flowers I have for decoration or a fluffy pillow. I also use a tripod which is a ton of help to avoid any shakiness. IMG_2416NikonCamD3300

These are the settings on the camera I normally use for product pictures with the zoom in manual so I can control it to my liking.

For editing I use free apps from our Mac computer. Screen Shot 2016-04-28 at 5.24.53 PM

Which are PhotoScape X and Pixlr. A simple google search will pull up a bunch of free editing options but so far these have been my favorites.

This is what PhotoScape X looks open. I like this for more personal pictures. Such as the ones of my daughter

This is what Pixlr looks like open. This is my usual go to for a quick fix on product pics.

So by now you know I blog from our  Mac Computer. My husband bought this specifically for editing. He does car videos on his GoPro and so far its been amazing for that and for blogging. My goal is to one day be confident enough to do YouTube videos and so far all our research shows Mac has the best free editing software.

This is what WordPress looks like on it.

At our old house we had a desk but in our new apartment there’s a built-in desk area. And this is how it looks. It’s just a little nook. IMG_2425

These photos were taken with an iPhone 6s.
Just as a little fyi I don’t use the camera for selfies. I still haven’t played around with the timer, lighting, and settings enough to manage that. For selfies I just use my phone. Either the regular camera or Snapchat (Prissycutes add me) because of the fun filters.

This is my Makeup Of The Day. All of these were taken with snapchat. The top right is the only one without a filter.

These are filter free.

So thats it!

This is all just my opinion, what we have, and what works for me. None of this is a necessity.

Any tips you may have for me? Anything we can learn from each other??

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope it was helpful!

Ipsy is my Monday fave!

Ipsy is my Monday fave!

I finally got my ipsy bag! It mailed to our old address so the hubby had to get it for me. This month’s theme was “dreamers” and the bag itself is so cute! I think definitely one of my favorite!

A lot of people ask me if I think it’s worth signing up for ipsy and personally I enjoy it. For many many reasons. 1. At least one product pays for the monthly fee of $10. 2. I get to try new products without spending a whole lot of $$$. 3. I secretly enjoy having something to look forward to in the mail! (LOL!!)

Like my best friend said “Ipsy knows you!” So of course I was super excited for a new brush. I’ve never purchased any Crown brushes but I have purchased a cream contour kit from them and enjoyed it very much! This is the C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush. This brush retails for about $10 on their website. I like these type of brushes to stipple in my concealer and to apply blush and highlights.

As you can see I was having a hard time capturing the true color of this eyeliner. This pencil is by Skinn Cosmetics and this is the Bright eyes Eye enhancing Eyeliner. If like me you’re a bit more on the tanned side than you’ll notice using a white liner in the water line may look kind of odd. For a long time I’ve been searching for a different shade that isn’t white and had settled for a gold so I am soooo happy I received this specific color liner. This eyeliner retails for $18 so I mean COME ON! Two products already payed for the $10 fee.

Next up is this cream eyeshadow by Starlooks in Rose Gold. I haven’t tried this shadow but I am so stoked. Golds make my eyes look a bit lighter so I love these type of shades. I did swatch it and it goes on so smooth and bright.
I don’t think I have ever tried a Tarte lip product so I was excited for this. As soon as I saw the shade I knew it was something I can carry around in my purse for pops of color whenever I need it. This is their LipSurgence™ lip crème in Wonder. As we all know Tarte is cruelty free, yay!
STYLIST TIP:

Perfect your pout! Swipe once for a sheer wash of color, or build for more intensity.
P.S. It also doubles as a cheek color! Apply to the apples of cheeks and blend for a radiant flush of color. (From the Ipsy Website).

I’ve never been big on hair products I don’t know why, just never have. So I wasn’t super excited for this product Moroccanoil Moroccanoil treatment. However I have found some hair products I genuinely like through Ipsy so I’ll give it a shot.

Shine on! It’s the original – and best – argan oil treatment that’s won countless awards for its insane hair-perfecting power. Just one use transforms lackluster locks into the super shiny strands of your dreams. It’s also a magical multitasker – the all-in-one product works overtime to condition, style and finish your hair. (From the Ipsy website).

Overall, like always I am pleased with my monthly Ipsy bag. In the past there’s been some fails but I’m glad I waited it out. If you’re interested in an Ipsy subscription in this post I describe what it’s like and how it works.

Were you pleased with this month’s bag?!

Monday Faves, Kinda. . .

Monday Faves, Kinda. . .

I mentioned in my previous post we were going to be moving soon and finally it happened! Although we did go from a house to an apartment I cannot be happier. We lost a back yard and a garage but we gained a 3rd bedroom which I am super happy for. This will be our “guest bedroom” and my makeup/shoe room! Sadly I couldn’t get up a #MOTD over the weekend since we were so busy and I skipped on the makeup but I do apologize!!

DSC_0552

Let me begin by telling you guys I AM ALL ABOUT REPURPOSING RECYCLING THINGS! I mean it. I am constantly looking out for things I can re use or give it a new purpose. We all see on pinterest these ideas of using mason jars as brush holders and while I am all for it . . . I won’t spend money on a jar just for brushes. Instead I use Classico Spaghetti sauce jars. I started doing this because I noticed the jars had measurements on it so I went on a huge jar saving binge, LOL! I use these jars for makeup brushes, measuring cups, cotton pad holder, and to drink out of them. I have even stained some and use them to decorate.

DSC_0553

I also took this hot pink basket from my daughter to hold my palettes. I gave birth while my husband was deployed so I didn’t have a nursery and I had to get creative when it came to putting baby clothes away and these $1 basket from Target were a life saver, then and now! I saved the gelato container because it reminded me of the Bath and Body works big candle everyone cleans out and uses as brush holders but since I don’t use candles, lol, this will do. I saw on Facebook a cool idea about using contact paper to wrap it in so maybe I’ll give that a try since the container does have letters. The acrylic lipstick holder I purchased at Marshall’s for something insanely cheap like $5.99.

So for now this is my little set up. I still have to set up some more products that are packed away and some more brushes. I also need to set up our Jordan’s (you didn’t think I meant heels did you?!?) lol. I also need a chair but I am so happy to be out of my husbands way. My makeup stash was taking up our bathroom counter. So this Monday this is my favorite. . .  my OWN little space. I can’t wait to get some wall decor up and my shelves for the extra stuff!

What’s some stuff you like repurposing for your makeup room/stash?!? Or a good place to buy makeup storage (besides ikea sadly it isn’t an option for us)?!?

Dear 18 Year old me. . .

Dear 18 Year old me. . .

Have you ever been asked, “If you could go back in time and  tell your 18 year old self anything what would you say??” That question always gets me thinking. Since this is a blog about makeup and what not I will be telling my 18 year old self the importance of moisturizing. I don’t think I ever cared. I did use a moisturizer but it belonged to my mom. I figured that she looked young for her age so why not use it too and it was free (haha) who doesn’t love free??

Another thing I wish I knew the importance of is spf. At such a young age I thought using sunblock only when I went to the beach was enough. Little did I know or understand uv rays and how they’re not only out just during summer. I do know during summer I used a tinted moisturizer with spf 15 but any other time of the year I didn’t bother with my daily moisturizer having spf. As an adult I am scared this will affect me down the road.

I’d also tell myself my eyelashes falling out with a certain mascara means I’m allergic to it so STOP using it. I used to have long thick lashes and suddenly that changed. I noticed it happened when I used a certain mascara. Luckily I never went through a bright blue shadow phase or black eyshadow (lol) so I got lucky with that. I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup so my teenage makeup routine was black eyeliner and mascara.

Philosophyfacewash

Then I grew a little left the nest and started my party stage. Which meant I was using a lot more makeup. . .and I wish I could tell myself to wash it off before bed. As an adult I get so mad at myself for not getting into that routine at a younger age. My excuse was always, “I’m tired!” or “I don’t have makeup remover wipes”. As an adult now I understand the importance of washing off my makeup and hydrating my skin. Not just with a good eye and face moisturizer but with water (drinking plenty of it).

This past week I ran out of my makeup remover wipes so I stopped wearing makeup completely just because I hate using a makeup eraser on a full face of makeup. Then I remembered I have my trusty Purity wash by Philosophy. Like always I use my Equate oil-free eye makeup remover to take off my eyeshadow, liner, and mascara. I am not particularly picky about brands when it comes to this I just make sure it doesn’t irritate me. I have had other brands do that. I soak a little cotton pad and hold it against my closed eye for some seconds to break down the makeup and then gently wipe. Once thats off I wash my face with the face wash. If I didn’t do a full face of makeup thats all I do then I just moisturize like usual. If I do I’ll wash off my makeup with Purity then  I use a second face wash or a scrub. Purity is pretty amazing and does the job (I even use it to wash my stubborn  foundation brushes and beauty blender) I just double up if I need it. It is a pricey wash but SO worth it. . . in my opinion.

10 years later I like to think I am a little wiser when it comes to my health both internal and external. Beauty begins in the inside so health and hydration is important to me along with properly caring for my skin! Like many beauty guru’s say “your skin is your canvas” so I try to care for mine as much as possible. Undo all that damage I did as a care free teenager.

If you could go back in time and tell your 18 year old self anything beauty related what would it be??

Monday Favorites

Monday Favorites

One of my favorite things to do on my down time besides reading, online window shopping, is watching videos on youtube. Some people I watch because I genuinely like their talent but others I like watching their video blogs or ‘vlogs’. Here is my top list of Youtuber’s I like to watch. They’re in no specific order.

First of is Jazminesong . . .I have spoken to her one on one. She is so talented, nice, and down to earth. We follow each other on snapchat and she’s given me pointers and has helped me whenever I have any questions.

Second is Lustrelux. . . I came across Katy when I subscribed to all of the Ipsy beauty gurus. She is so funny and has amazing talent.

Then we have Kathleenlights. Chances are you’ve seen her or have heard someone talk about her. I started watching her channel because she was also a military spouse and that made her so relatable. Not to mention she looks so much like my best friend. Also, Kathleen does a lot of drugstore looks and if you watch her for a while you’ll notice she genuinely uses drugstore products.

Nicole Guerriero , I think everyone knows her. She’s like the OG of youtube. I like watching  her beauty videos but I LOVE her video blogs ‘vlogs’ she has the cutest personality and like me knows the lyrics to almost every song she listens to. She loves cats and at times my daughter and I watch just to see the cats.

What would Lizzy do is my favorite makeup vloggers. Her personality is contagious and her makeup looks are so easy to recreate.

I am slightly obsessed with makeup videos. I always turn to youtube for reviews and makeup looks. I like challenging myself by recreating looks and maybe one day when I gain some confidence I’ll start my own channel but for now I’ll just watch and admire.

Who are some of your favorite youtubers or “beauty gurus”??

Monday Fave!!

Monday Fave!!

We are in the middle of moving which is such a drag! We’ve started taking down everything from the walls which included my makeup shelf. Luckily it’s not an insane amount of makeup so it was easy to pack.

For Christmas my mother in law got me a makeup traveling case to keep my makeup away from my toddler. But it’s come in handy now that we’re moving. It’s amazing and a must have for anyone that moves like we do. (My husband is active duty). So I know I’ll use it a lot.

It has multiple and adjustable compartments. The center is also open and deep to stack stuff in there. On the trays I have lip products, anything in a tube, and single eyeshadows. In the center I put my palettes. Which by the way I saved all the original packaging. I’m a bit of a hoarder 😟 (lol) so that’s come in handy! I also put all of my ipsy bags, cream contour palettes, and the brushes I don’t use every day in the center.

As you can see I have already dug through it even though I did set aside a makeup bag with every day essentials. The case itself is super sturdy as my 3yr old tested it out as a stool! The outside is a faux snake skin material. The inside trays are a hard plastic and the big compartment is felt lined. It comes with a detachable strap which would come in handy for a traveling makeup artist. . . Which is my ultimate goal! It’s pretty heavy so I’m thankful for the strap.

Anyone else this particular about their makeup during moves or vacations?!?

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!
