Blogging/Photo Set up

I never imagined myself making a post like this for many reasons. One, I never thought I’d enjoy blogging this much. Second, I never imagined people would take an interest in my work! Lastly, I am my own worst critic so I just never imagined any of this!

I was recently complimented on my photos and was asked for any tips so I thought I’d share what I’ve learned. A lot of it has been trial and error. More often than not I get so frustrated I can’t capture my vision and I ask the Hubs for help. Thankfully he is an amazing support system and will gladly help. I am very grateful for everything including his support.

Let’s begin with the camera. For product pictures 90% of the time I use my Nikon D3300. This was a valentine’s gift from my husband. He believes in me more than I believe in myself so when I told him I wanted to take my blogging more serious he sprang into action. So far it has been such a great investment. I think it gives my blog a more “uniformed” look. We also used it to do my daughters easter pics saving us a good chunk of change. I haven’t purchased a different lens so I simply use the 18-55MM it came with. We have huge windows in our living room so that’s where I usually set up. I try my very best to catch natural sunlight since it gives the pictures the best look.  NIKOND3300

For products I have multiple surfaces and backgrounds I use. Some are diy others I’ve purchased for taking home pictures. What I mean by that is for example the wood surface in the picture with the camera or the marble surface. For backgrounds I use poster boards in different colors. Usually its just white though and I’ll just add flowers I have for decoration or a fluffy pillow. I also use a tripod which is a ton of help to avoid any shakiness. IMG_2416NikonCamD3300

These are the settings on the camera I normally use for product pictures with the zoom in manual so I can control it to my liking.

For editing I use free apps from our Mac computer. Screen Shot 2016-04-28 at 5.24.53 PM

Which are PhotoScape X and Pixlr. A simple google search will pull up a bunch of free editing options but so far these have been my favorites.

This is what PhotoScape X looks open. I like this for more personal pictures. Such as the ones of my daughter

This is what Pixlr looks like open. This is my usual go to for a quick fix on product pics.

So by now you know I blog from our  Mac Computer. My husband bought this specifically for editing. He does car videos on his GoPro and so far its been amazing for that and for blogging. My goal is to one day be confident enough to do YouTube videos and so far all our research shows Mac has the best free editing software.

This is what WordPress looks like on it.

At our old house we had a desk but in our new apartment there’s a built-in desk area. And this is how it looks. It’s just a little nook. IMG_2425

Just as a little fyi I don’t use the camera for selfies. I still haven’t played around with the timer, lighting, and settings enough to manage that. For selfies I just use my phone. Either the regular camera or Snapchat (Prissycutes add me) because of the fun filters.

This is my Makeup Of The Day. All of these were taken with snapchat. The top right is the only one without a filter.

These are filter free.

So thats it!

This is all just my opinion, what we have, and what works for me. None of this is a necessity.

Any tips you may have for me? Anything we can learn from each other??

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope it was helpful!
